Programs & Initiatives
Every program builds one of the reserves our communities draw on before and after disasters: health, wealth, and culture. The Black Resilience Network connects them across the country.
Health
Elders and families are often the first to be cut off when a disaster hits and the last to be reached after. NextCare grew out of the 7,000+ Resilience Calls we made to Black households in Boston in 2020. It continues through wellness checks and support for elders and families.

Wealth
A connected pathway of programs for young people ages 14 to 25. Participants learn how purpose-driven organizations are built, branded, and funded, and use art, storytelling, and strategy to build their own. NextRise Summer is free, and participants are paid; it ran in 2026, and new tracks are being designed for 2027.
Culture
The untaught history and contributions of Black people in the U.S., demonstrating all the ways we are Rooted in Resilience. This includes the Historic Black Towns & Settlements map and the 1526 project, marking 500 years of African Americans fighting for their freedom.
All three, nationwide
A national network of 100+ member organizations in 23 states. We plan together before disasters through Community Hubs, act together after them through the BRN Emergency Operations Center, and gather communities through the Rooted in Resilience series.
Stories, invitations, and ways to act for health, wealth, and cultural resilience in Black communities, in Boston and across the country.
